The ancient city is famous for its Roman triumphal arch and its amphitheatre where each summer famous Orange Choregies take place.
The surrounding area abounds in vestiges of Roman period :
Vaison-La-Romaine in Comtat Venaissin, Le Pont du Gard on the other bank of the Rhone, Saint Rémy de Provence in Alpilles, the Roman cities of Nimes and Arles
Avignon the papal city is very close, a little further is Aix-en-Provence.
